Position: Senior Cloud Engineer
Locations: Gurgaon
Function: Engineering / Infrastructure
About the Role
The Device Lab team within Uber’s Fleet Engineering builds and operates the physical and software infrastructure that gates the release of key consumer apps (Uber Rider, Driver, Eats). You will manage the hardware, software, and systems driving Uber’s private cloud device lab infrastructure, collaborating with infrastructure operations, device foundations, and internal QA/automation/product teams.
Key Responsibilities

Build, maintain, test, and scale tooling that powers core device-lab infrastructure services

Design and execute benchmarking tests for hardware (Dell servers, device hubs, mobile devices)

Integrate telemetry from devices and systems into observability tools (Grafana, Datadog etc.)

Use vendor APIs to track and monitor device & system metrics

Create documentation from scratch: architecture, design, support processes

Identify legacy or technical debt in the system, propose architecture improvements, and lead modernization efforts

Execute system and software rollouts for internal tooling & dependencies

Mentor junior engineers; contribute to team-level design reviews and architecture decisions

Participate in 24×7 on-call rotations and weekend deployments

Handle root cause analyses (RCAs) for high-impact outages, coordinating across teams
Required / Basic Qualifications
-
5+ years of experience managing internal tooling, QA/test infrastructure, SRE or DevOps roles in large-scale environments

Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, Shell) for automation and infrastructure support

Experience with configuration management / infrastructure-as-code tools like Puppet, Ansible, or Chef
-
Experience managing macOS / Ubuntu / Linux OS configuration in scalable environments, including OS provisioning to bare metal (e.g. via Dell iDRAC)

Ability to make data-driven decisions and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Comfortable working under pressure and handling high-stakes outages

Willingness to engage in on-call rotation and support deployments outside regular hours

Strong interpersonal skills; team-first mindset
Preferred / Nice-to-Have

Experience with CI/CD tooling (Buildkite, Jenkins) and managing device labs or device farm environments

Familiarity with SaaS device testing platforms: AWS Device Farm, BrowserStack, HeadSpin, Kobiton, etc.

Experience with mobile OS / testing frameworks (Appium, Espresso, UI Automator)

Exposure to macOS configuration tools (Munki, JAMF, MDM) for device management

Experience with hybrid or private cloud strategies supporting hardware + software infrastructure
Work Mode / Office Policy
Uber values in-person collaboration. Unless formally approved for remote work, employees are expected to spend at least half of their time in their assigned office.
