About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and skilled AI / Generative AI Engineer to join our analytics team at Cognizant. You will work on designing and developing advanced AI and ML models and integrating generative AI into analytics solutions. You will collaborate across teams to build scalable frameworks that drive better decision-making, operational efficiencies, and actionable insights from complex data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy data science and machine learning models, prototypes, and PoCs across different domains

  • Design solution architectures, data pipelines, and algorithms; work with MLOps practices

  • Lead development and integration of Generative AI systems — e.g. LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, agentic frameworks

  • Integrate generative AI features into existing applications and products

  • Fine-tune foundation models (e.g. Transformers, LLAMA, GPT) for domain-specific performance

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business, data engineering, product) to gather requirements and deliver AI-enabled functionality

  • Perform root cause analysis, propose optimizations, and document model behavior and results

  • Visualize model outputs, explain the results to stakeholders in non-technical language

  • Ensure data ingestion, governance, quality, and compliance

  • Stay updated with latest AI/ML research, tools, and frameworks, and introduce innovation in your work

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or equivalent

  • Experience: 3 – 4 years in roles like AI Engineer, ML Engineer, Data Scientist, or equivalent

  • Proven experience building ML / AI systems — from prototyping to production

  • Hands-on experience with: Python (NumPy, Pandas), deep learning, NLTK, Transformers, HuggingFace, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn

  • Experience with generative AI / LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG (retrieval augmented generation), and agentic AI frameworks

  • Familiarity with cloud (AWS / Azure) for model deployment and VM/cloud infrastructure

  • Knowledge of tools like LangChain, REST APIs, Flask, Databricks, Streamlit is a plus

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams

  • Self-driven, proactive, and research-oriented mindset

Good-to-Have / Domain Exposure

  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, railway, embedded systems, manufacturing or product engineering

  • Experience in engineering testing, software development, or embedded systems

Salary Range

Based on available market data in India:

  • The average salary for a Generative AI Engineer in India is ~ ₹9,63,500 / year

  • Industry reports suggest mid-level Generative AI talent (3-5 years) may command ₹12,00,000 to ₹25,00,000 / year, depending on company, domain, and skill levels

  • In general AI / ML roles, salaries for mid-career professionals often fall in the ₹12,00,000 – ₹20,00,000 range in India

  • For Cognizant specifically, AI Engineer roles are reported at  ₹11,00,000 / year (base)

Given the specialization and responsibilities of this role, a competitive salary band to list would be:

₹14,00,000 – ₹25,00,000 per annum + performance incentives / variable pay
