About the Role
As a Lead Engineer – Embedded Software Quality & Test, you will be part of the R&D Validation & Verification (V&V) team, contributing to the design, implementation, and rigorous testing of embedded software for protection and control systems in the electrical transmission / grid domain. You will lead test planning, execution, and reporting for new product introductions (NPI) and product lifecycle support (LCS) releases.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage testing for NPI and LCS releases of protection relay products (e.g., GE UR, 8Series, MiCOM)

Build deep domain expertise in power system protection functions

Develop, review, and maintain test plans, validation & verification (V&V) reports

Estimate, plan, and execute functional and system tests in alignment with release schedules

Test and validate existing and new software modules and IED configuration tools

Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks and test cases
-
Ensure high quality of automation tools and test infrastructure in collaboration with cross-functional teams
-
Document automation tool architecture, test results, and compliance with V&V policies

Mentor and review work of junior test engineers; coordinate across engineering, product, and quality teams
Required Qualifications & Skills
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Power Systems, or equivalent
-
5+ years’ experience in embedded software testing / validation
-
Strong fundamentals in electronics, power systems protection, substation automation, SCADA
-
Prior experience with GE relay platforms (UR, UR+, 8Series, MiCOM)

Proficiency with industrial communication protocols: DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, IEEE 1588, Ethernet, etc.

Experience using protocol analyzers, simulation tools, and network test suites

Hands-on experience in building and deploying test automation frameworks

Familiarity with JIRA, Xray, Confluence, Git, version control workflows

Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex embedded systems

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage in a multicultural environment

Self-starter mindset with good planning, time management, and team collaboration

Estimated Salary Range
Based on current market data for embedded test / leadership roles in India:

Test Lead / Senior Embedded Test Engineer benchmark: ~ ₹15 lakhs to ₹37 lakhs per annum
-
Embedded testing domain average: ~ ₹16.0 lakh to ₹36.7 lakh
Given your senior/lead level and domain specialization (power protection relays, grid systems), a realistic salary band might fall within:
₹18,00,000 – ₹35,00,000 per annum (INR)
